The Great Debt and tax Debate. Fast forward 222 years: Home
As we have just studied in class, the debates between the Republicans and the Federalists were fierce and led to the Whiskey Rebellion. Yikes! This web quest will help you come up with your own proposed solutions on the best way to solve our current crisis. We need your help...maybe you can solve what our current politicians have not, at least to this point! Help us get to a better future :)
...
Just as in 1791, our country is deeply in debt. Not only that, but, just like in time of Washington, Hamilton, and Jefferson most of our leaders acknowledge that our country is in a MAJOR crisis. Some of our political leaders are in favor, as Hamilton was, of raising taxes to reduce the nation’s debt. Some are in favor of reducing or cutting the amount of money the government spends to reduce the debt. There are also some leaders who favor of a combination of these approaches; for example raising certain taxes to increase the amount of money coming into the treasury while at the same time reducing the amount of money the government is spending for things like education, the military, and roads, to name a few. Currently our national debt is currently growing by the minute http://www.usdebtclock.org/ (check out this site to see for yourself and gather information to help solve this national problem!). There is no time to waste.
